As far as school mascots go, I've had some pretty bad ones. In high school I was a Blazer. Not a Trail Blazer or anything that actually made sense, just a Blazer. What, were we supposed to be suit jackets? I'm still not sure what we Blazed. In college I was a Seagull. That's pretty intimidating, huh? I often felt like our school cheer should be something like "We are brazen, we are brash, don't mess with us or we'll eat your trash!" But I will say I'd fear a Seagull before I'd fear a Violet (NYU mascot). The more observant viewers of 'Pulp Fiction' might have noticed Samuel L. Jackson sporting a Fighting Bananaslugs t-shirt at one point in the film. It wasn't made up for the movie – that's the real mascot of UC Santa Cruz. Red has the list of those and some that are even worse. On a related note, AOL Money has a feature about the most annoying corporate mascots which ties in nicely to the conversation below about most memorable TV ads. Strangely, most of the ones we commented on as being memorable are noted in the most annoying list. I guess obnoxious or not, the advertisement made an impact and the mascot did what it was supposed to – stuck with us. Personally I hate the BK King – he looks creepy. And I simply don't get the Wendy's wig. Any mascots (either school or advertising) worse than the ones on these lists?

Top Ads of All Time you say? I'm one of those people who just watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and then spend weeks talking about how I could have done them better so this list on AOL Money was definitely of interest to me. Just to give you an example, I got 11 out of 12 on the Best Ads Quiz (and I only missed the one because I was distracted!) I think a lot of the ads on the list are accurate – the taglines became catch phrases outside the advertising realm and lived on in spoofs for years. But some of them I have to question -- Playtex? Ikea? Here's an example of what I think should make that list: I have absolutely no interest in sports. But I can tell you there was once a football player named Mean Joe Green who apparently had a reputation for being a curmudgeon but when offered a icy-cold, refreshing Coca-Cola by a young fan after a grueling game, he turned into a sweetheart. Even in my great sports ignorance, I still know this due to the power of an advertisement. That, and because the ad was spoofed for decades after it aired. So where was this ad on the list? What else should be there?
