To Diet For

I called It's Hot Missy over the weekend to tell her about the newest 100 cal snack packs I discovered – M&M's and 3 Musketeers. I am totally obsessed with 100 cal snacks. In addition to the above, I've found 100 cal brownie bites, Hershey mix snack packs, Reece's mix snack packs, chocolate cupcakes, and fudge stripe cookies. Now I know they have also have Dorito's and Cheese It's and Blueberry muffins out there too, but frankly, if they don't have chocolate in them, they are dead to me. What I'm looking for are new 100 cal snacks. Sometimes they market this stuff by region so if you have an additional 100 cal chocolate snack option in your neck of the woods let me know.

Of course, according to Diet By Your Sign (come on, you knew this was coming) I should be avoiding these 100 cal snacks like the plague and doing the Zone. And once I looked up what the Zone is... ha ha ha ha ha ha! Zippy chance of the Zone for me. I'll stick to my 100 cal snack packs. If you don't want to trust your diet choice to the stars (and I honestly don't recommend it, though these features always make for an entertaining read), here are six crash diets that even doctors do.

Common Scents

You've got... hungry? This article about KFC putting their piping hot food on mail carts absolutely cracked me up. Basically, when the mail boy brings the cart of mail through the office, he carries with him a plate of hot KFC. The idea is that the smell would then temp the mail recipients into purchasing a meal. I have to wonder who thought of this idea. Here's what the spokesman says:

"There is truly no better brand ambassador worldwide than the signature aroma of freshly prepared Kentucky Fried Chicken," said James O'Reilly, chief marketing officer for KFC. "And we couldn't think of a better way to showcase the value of our new $2.99 Deal than to inject the mouth-watering scent of Kentucky Fried Chicken into the corridors of corporate America."

And how. It's so simple it's brilliant. I am dying to see some results from this marketing experiment in a few weeks. Too bad it's KFC though. As a vegetarian, even the best smelling fried chicken, brought over at the hungriest part of my day, would hold no appeal. Having said that, if anyone out there represents Mrs. Fields fresh baked hot chocolate chip cookies and wants to get on an AOL mail cart, let me know. I will make it happen. Any other "special delivery" requests?

What's the Latest Dish?

Everyone has a family favorite recipe that they turn to when they need to indulge in comfort food -- something familiar to make them feel better. Mine tends to be Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, Campbell 's Tomato Soup and chocolate ice cream. The spouse always knows if the water is boiling and the blue box is out on the counter, then I've had a terrible day. It's not that my family didn't cook. I know we have a stash of our own secret family recipes, but I never bothered to write any of them down. Truth be told, I'm just not a foodie. I never got into haute cuisine or the gourmet stuff. I tend to always take the cheap and easy route: orange mac & cheese beats duck à l'orange any day. This is why It's-Hot-Jeff is the food guy. Having said that, the latest entry in the Guilty Pleasures blog makes me want to rethink my palate. The author has such a great story about her favorite family dishes, their history, their smells... it got me yearning for some real family food traditions. You just don't get stories like that when it comes to mac & cheese. I might have to call my mom or surf other recipes to create my own family traditions. Anyone want to share your favs?

Food for Thought

Eating is a passion for me. I love all food – however, it doesn't necessarily love me. As a mom of two who put on 55lbs with each pregnancy and a long-time Weight Watchers member, my consciousness has been raised about just how many darn calories there are in everything. I love looking at this calorie site from AOL Body – although it's painful to know just how many calories there are in that Red Lobster cheese biscuit. Not that I've hit an RL in the past twenty years L – but if I did – I guess I'd just stick with the Alaskan King Crab Legs – hold the butter.
