Yes, AOL 9.0VR software will work with with Windows® Vista, Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, Windows® ME and Windows® 98 Second Edition. If you are using Windows XP or earlier Windows operating systems, you do not need to update your AOL software to 9.0VR.

Does It Cost Anything to Upgrade to AOL 9.0VR?

No. If you are on an hourly plan, the time you spend downloading does not count as part of your your connect time. Communication surcharges still apply, however, if they normally apply to you.

Are There Special Requirements for Upgrading on a High-Speed Connection?

No. Just go to AOL Keyword: Vista to begin the download. The download should take only a few minutes when using a DSL or cable Internet connection.

How Do I Know What Version of AOL Software I'm Using Now?

How Long Does It Take to Download AOL 9.0VR?

9.0VR was designed for faster downloading. AOL customers with high-speed connections can download it in just a few minutes. If you are using a 56.6 dial-up connection, it will take 1-3 hours to download. Other factors such as your computer's processor speed and whether you are running other applications at the same time can also play a role. The green status bar will tell show you the progress of your download.

Can I Use My Computer While I Download AOL 9.0VR?

Yes -- although your computer, including applications like email and Web browsers, may run more slowly while your download is underway. Once the download is complete, the installation process for AOL 9.0VR will automatically close your current AOL program and ask you to restart your computer.

Should I Quit Other Programs Before Installing AOL 9.0VR?

Yes, we recommend you close all other programs you may have running before you install your new AOL software.

Will AOL 9.0VR Delete My Current AOL Software?
    No. AOL 9.0VR will install itself in a completely new folder, but will copy settings from your previous version. Unless you were using AOL OpenRide or AOL Suite software, your AOL mail folders, favorites, Address Book and Buddy List® feature will all be accessible from your 9.0VR software, and the AOL icon on your desktop will now launch AOL 9.0VR. If you have multiple old versions of AOL installed on your machine, you may want to remove some of them to free up space. Once you are sure you want to remove the old version, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  3. Click AOL Uninstaller once to select it, then click the Change/Remove button.
  4. Click the Search for Older Versions of AOL link in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  5. Select which version(s) to uninstall. Your Personal Filing Cabinet will be backed up automatically (and saved to the "AOL Saved PFC" folder on the desktop).
  6. Upon completion, you will be prompted to restart your computer.
If My Download Is Interrupted, Do I Have to Start Over?

No. Just go back to AOL Keyword: Vista and resume your download by clicking the Download button. AOL automatically returns to the point where your connection was interrupted and completes the download from there. If your download is interrupted often, there may be a problem with your modem. What If AOL 9.0VR Won't Install?

The AOL 9.0VR Setup should start automatically once you've downloaded the program. If it doesn't -- or you need to find the 9.0 Setup program for some other reason -- here's what to do:

  3. Look for a folder named Documents and Settings and double-click to open it.
  4. Look for a folder named All Users and double-click to open it.
  5. Look for a folder named Documents or Shared Documents and double-click to open it.
  6. Look for a folder called AOL Downloads and double-click to open it.
  7. Look for a folder named aolsetup90 and double-click to open it.
  8. Double-click setup90.exe to start the AOL 9.0VR Setup program.
Is 9.0VR Compatible With Accessibility Software?

AOL 9.0VR is accessible and optimized for use with the JAWS screen-reader. For users on XP, there is no need to upgrade to 9.0VR at this time, as AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE provides a comparable experience. AOL is working with the makers of JAWS to ensure that 9.0VR will work with the Vista-compatible version of JAWS when it is released.

What Is Included With AOL 9.0VR Software?

To access all the features of AOL 9.0VR, you must download and install the AOL 9.0VR software on your computer. The programs that will be installed are:

  • AOL 9.0VR
  • Adobe® Flash® 9.0
  • ViewPoint® Media Player

In addition, you should also be aware of the following:

  • A shortcut and tray icon for 9.0VR will be added to your desktop for quick access to AOL.
  • If you use AOL Parental Controls, the controls will be updated to give you the latest protections.
  • Occasional software updates may be automatically installed to ensure quality of performance.

The AOL Software End User License Agreement governs the use of 9.0VR, Adobe Flash, and ViewPoint Media Player.
